Parents today are caught between many experts and many oversimplified articles on how to raise their children. The simple fact is there are no formulas that can be applied to all children with equal success. There are, however, universal laws of child development which can guide our interactions with children and provide a healthy framework for decision making with respect to our children.
Parents need to observe their children carefully and provide well defined boundaries for them to safely and happily expand their range of activities. Parents also need to engage their children in the community life of the family by teaching them skills and giving them age appropriate responsibilities.
There is a tendency to underestimate the impact which our example, words, and actions have on our children and on the shaping of their values. We should always teach our children to be the best person they can be, whatever the circumstances, temptations, or behavior of others.
Understanding the basic needs, critical developmental stages, and forming a loving relationship with our children will empower them to construct a healthy and integrated learning and social personality for themselves.
Although there are many more resources and information for parents, there are also many forces in our culture which guide our children toward unbalanced lives through the influence of excessive and age inappropriate media, dietary and environmental toxins, and a pop culture that dilutes the attention of children on the critical formation of their intellect and talents.
We hope the resources and recommendations we share in this section will simplify and enhance the joy of parenting.
